2024 Hyundai Palisade

Best Safety Value: $38,045 (SE)
Base Price: $38,045 | Expert Rating: 4.7
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 mpg
A terrific value, the 3-row Hyundai Palisade provides a wealth of standard goodies, including a few on our recommended list. Among our sought-after features in this Top Safety Pick are auto on/off LED headlights, high-beam assist, hill-start assist, and seven airbags. Also standard are heated outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals. Leading off its list of advanced safety technologies are blind-spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, rear park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-following assist, lane-keeping assist, driver-monitoring system, and safe exit assist.
Stepping up to the SEL grade doesn’t add anything to the safety story; however, the Premium Package is available with the SEL trim level. It adds Highway Driving Assist, a blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view camera, junction-turning assist, and a few other like-to-haves. However, that addition brings the total price tag to about $46K. Therefore, we don’t think moving up to the SEL makes sense regarding added safety versus value. Stay with the SE.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Best Safety Value:
$35,365 (SE)
Base Price: $35,365 | Expert Rating: 4.7
Combined Fuel Economy: 24 mpg
An IIHS TSP that was redesigned this year, the Santa Fe is a 3-row midsize SUV. Hyundai also offers the Santa Fe as a hybrid. Among our recommended safety features, the Santa Fe includes LED headlights, high-beam assist, nine airbags, and hill start assist. On the Santa Fe roster, the advanced safety features are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring system, lane-following assist, junction-turning assist, front/rear park assist, and safe exit assist.
Although stepping up to the SEL gains a lot of cool stuff, very little of it has to do with safety. However, leapfrogging to the Limited (about 10 grand more than the SE) adds reverse automatic braking, 360-degree park-assist warning, surround-view camera, and Remote Smart Parking Assist, allowing you to park without being behind the steering wheel. When safety determines the buying decision, stay with the SE.

2024 Hyundai Tucson

Best Safety Value: $28,975 (SE)
Base Price: $28,975 | Expert Rating: 4.4
Combined Fuel Economy: 28 mpg
Also available as a hybrid and a PHEV, the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV balances practicality, technology, safety, and style. Its place on the IIHS list of TSP winners evidences its emphasis on safety. LED headlights, high-beam assist, eight airbags, and hill start assist are among our suggested features list.
Its advanced safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, junction-turning assist, driver monitoring system, and safe exit assist. If we were making the decision, we’d put forth another $2,200 for the SEL grade for the wealth of extra features; however, none of them have any additional safety benefit. Consequently, for our purposes here, we say stick with the SE.
